Working for free

Something I quite like doing is giving my clients a certain amount of time for free. Generally I do this when I need to update my portfolio and I realise all the work I want to show is years out of date.

I recently updated the site for Donlon Books. I needed something to do during the cold winter months in Berlin so reached out to Conor he was only too happy for me to re-align the site I'd first build back in 2014. I didn't do too much other than update the store to use sections and some of Shopify's new storefront 2.0 features.

I widened everything optimised the hell out of the code and had a good old clean up to fix things past Alex didn't do too well. I say this but in all likelihood it was probably advances in CSS or JS or HTML that had changed and not my standard of coding.

Looking back I'd say I'm pretty happy with the result. I reckon we sped things up a bit and improved the customer experience too.

Also this process gave me some good belly feels. And since Conor had recommended me to a new client I thought doing this was a nice thing to do. If you're in the market for old and rare design, art, music or counter culture books please go and visit the shop.
