On the death of musicians

Another legend has passed, Terry Hall of the Specials and lately vocalist with the Dub Pistols. I saw the Specials play recently (well within the last few years anyway) at the Roundhouse. It was one of those gigs where the energy was perceivable. Rumour has my mum saw Jimi Hendrix at the Roundhouse back in the sixties - so it was kinda special to see a band we both loved play there. My mum was pretty cool back then.

Hearing of Terry's passing reminded me of seeing the Dub Pistols at Beastival. The very same weekend when the Beastie Boys played twice - Saturday headline and then an instrumental set on Sunday. Another band I've loved since I was a kid. And another lost soul, MCA you are sorely missed. I still remember the first time I heard the Beastie Boys, when someone at school came in with copied tape of 'License to Ill' and a Walkman. As a ten year old in 1986 this was as memorable as the World Cup and Maradona's hand of god goal - somethings remain eternal.
